A nice family outing…what should we do? Well, Scott and I decided that we would have a nice family day on Saturday. We constantly find ourselves doing “stuff” with others. It is kind of in our nature, but we do like to have some “us” time. I know that sounds corny, but we love to sing the song “Three is the Magic Number.”
So, we woke up to no alarm on Saturday (which was nice). Oh, except for the fact that Grant was our alarm. But, since it was 9 am, we will not complain. So, we looked at one another and said, “What shall we do?” Yes, we used the word “shall.” We talked about a “game plan.” You see, we did have some “MUST-GET-DONES” on our list. I had to finish Grant’s baby book up to his birthday (I was on May…that just meant June). Scott had to snake a phone line into the spare bedroom/deskroom because we have been paying for cable Internet and DSL for two months. We switched to DSL before realizing there wasn’t a phone outlet in that room…oops. Okay, both of us agreed our tasks would take around a half hour….LOL
Okay, by one o’clock we were actually done with our tasks and dressed ready to go. We decided to go to downtown LA. Where should we go…Chinatown. So, we drove to Chinatown and shopped around. We looked at all the stuff and Grant commentated for us on all the beads, bracelets, shoes, jewelry, balls, etc. He would grasp for air and say, “Look Mommy Daddy, shoes!!!!!!” It was really cute.
Then, we went to Hop Louie’s to eat!! It was splendid. We had the lunch special for three (we should have only gotten it for two). Oh well, we ate until we couldn’t eat anymore. We had kung pao chicken and sweet and sour pork. The meal came with a lot of sides, but Grant’s favorites were the soup and noodles. He ate like a big boy. He did grow a little restless toward the end of the meal. His fortune cookie stated, “You are at a prosperous time in your life.” Nice!!
After that, we shopped a little longer and then went back to the car. We then headed for the La Brea Tar Pits (which have been there before the city was built). We simply walked through the outdoor park area and went to LACMA (Los Angeles County Museum of Art). Scott has been wanting to go to a surrealist exhibit on Magritte since he read about it in November. Finally, three months later we are going!!! Time flies, but at least we are doing it. The exhibit was amazing. Grant did well for his first real art exhibit. We’ve taken to children’s museums which is just a fancy word for children’s indoor play exhibits. However, the surrealism exhibit was probably the best thing to take him to for his first true exhibit. It doesn’t take much to “see” what is in the painting and there is so much juxtaposing that it makes for fun with a two-year-old. He especially liked the painting with an eye in the center of the plate (and it had a fork and knife on the side). Grant kept saying, “Look at the eye, Mommy Daddy.” Oh, and let us not forget the Time Transfixed painting which has both a "choo-choo" train and a "tick tock."Also, they had some huge boxes of Kellogg’s cereal boxes from a Warhol display in the 70s and Grant was saying, “look at the cereal.” I do believe we went through two fruit roll-ups and stayed at the exhibit for two hours. So, all-in-all, I think things worked out well. We saw Magritte, Grant saw Magritte and ate fruit roll-ups and we kept the song true. “Three is the Magic Number.”

Sounds like a fun and busy day. Family time is fun and much needed. I would be so lucky to be woken up by my little ones by 9:00. Matthew was up at 5:00 today. Ugh!
