Well, the family did celebrate Halloween in fashion this year! Grant was so excited to put his monkey costume on that he mentioned it all day. He wanted to wear the "Munkeeee suit." He wanted bananas and more importantly he wanted CANDY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He LOVES candy. Like they always say, "the apple doesn't fall far from the tree." Well, "the sweet tooth doesn't fall far from his mother." The boy can spot candy a mile away. He is even getting pretty good at discriminating between the different kinds of candy. He knows he does not like snickers or anything with nuts (could he be taking after his Aunt Christi??).
Well, Granma and Grandpa went with Grant and I to a carnival or should I say we went with them. Anyway, we went to a local carnival and Grant had a blast (so did we). He played all the games, such as Basketball throw, tossing bean bags, kick-the-soccer-ball, and Grant's favorite: pick a sucker from a tree. I know that sounds simple, but the pick the sucker game gave him instant CANDY GRATIFICATION. The other games only gave you tickets that you could later on cash in for prizes...when you are two...INSTANT GRATIFICATION IS MORE IMPORTANT.
After the carnival (and two suckers later), we went "trick or treating." We went down one street and Grant would walk up to the doors and ring the doorbell. Anyone that has been around Gman lately knows this is his biggest joy in life..."ring the doorbells." He loves to ring his Aunt Kris' doorbell (about a dozen times in a row). So, he would walk up, ring the doorbell, announce to us that he rang the doorbell, hold up his basket and say one of two things, "trick or treating" or "N em N's please." Yes, we realized that it was a little rude to request your favorite candy, but we laughed so much over the fact that he would ask for "N em N's" (aka M & Ms). It was funny because all of the people would search for M & Ms and found themselves disappointed when they could meet his request. Oh, we got a kick out of that. However, the people would feel better once they realized a lot of things were being called "N em N's" (i.e. Milk Duds, Kit Kats, Hersey's chocolates, etc). Things without nuts were being called "N em N's," but the reaction was totally overtop once we would score true M & Ms. He would do a little happy dance and discuss with us (Granma, Grandpa and I) how those were "N em N's."
So, in short we enjoyed ourselves and so did Gman. He wore his costume and loved it. He cried for about thirty minutes once we got home because he couldn't continue to eat candy all night. The next morning he wanted "N em N's" instead of milk and well, to be quite honest with you...I'll be glad when the candy is gone. Grant has a memory like an elephant. We can't go a five minute period without asking for some candy...we are rationing two a day (one from dad and one from mom). Thank goodness we only went down one street!!
Pictures will follow...if I can figure out our new program.
