SWEA or Bust

Well, it is a Swedish thing that we go to every year called SWEA. It is in Los Angeles and we see the Lucia being done. It is really cool because you get to see all of the Swedish food, crafts, and clothing. It is like a Swedish fair. Aunt Kris, Lisa, Tracy, Chris, Emily, Grandma, Aunt Diney, Grant and I went. We did the trombola which is a raffle of sorts. Grandma gave Grant five tickets. You have to open these slender cylinder pieces of paper. If there is a number on the inside they bring you the number of your gift. In the past, I have never won anything. GRANT WON THREE ITEMS!!! He won a package of napkins, stuffed animal and a beautiful Swedish crystal candleholder. Good going!

Then we looked at all of the booths. Grandma took Grant over to the kids craft area and helped to make two ornaments together. Afterward, we headed to the Swedish deli to buy all of the necessary food for Christmas (like Lutafisk...YUCK).

DISNEYLAND IN DECEMBER!

All of you know that we are big fans of the Disneyland!! So, we made a family outing to Disneyland. We all had a plan to go to Disneyland and we had a great time. First of all, I think it is important to recognize when we went, we had a goal of getting some pictures with Mickey and whomever...to help with the Christmas picture.

We all met up at different times that day and the glory was that we had been rained on. I say this not in a sarcastic way, but instead in the real sense of being able to ride a lot of rides and not wait in line to meet Santa or Mickey!!!

So, we had a blast and here are some pics....look at all of the characters Grant met!

Happy Thanksgiving...yeah, I'm backing up

Hi Everyone,

Here goes, Thanksgiving was a fun time for all of us and we had a full tummy by the end of the meal. We all brought our favorites. Initially our Aunt Kris had the idea to make all new side dishes, but that just seems so hard when you make your faves only once or twice a year. So, we all brought something new, but stuck to our old standbys as well. So, needless to say...there was a lot of food.

After dinner, we played Apples to Apples! We had a blast and here are some pictures. How cute are Grant and Baby Emily?

Funny Phrases by Grant

Well, I know that I need to still post Thanksgiving and Christmas. However, I need to write down some of the great and funny phrases that Grant is saying these days. I will admit, Scott and I have a pretty straight-forward approach with Grant. Now having said that in the same breath I will also reveal that we are VERY SARCASTIC. I know it is an oxymoron to say that we are sarcastically straight-forward, but if you know us...well, it is possible to combine the two. So, why am I telling you this? Because our son, is a combination of us...a regular chip off the old block...apple doesn't fall far from the tree...you get the picture, don't you?

Grant's Wonderful Phrases and More....

  • "What is Santa bringing me today? I have been good you know."

  • "Mama, where's papa?" (He likes to ask this when Scott is standing in the room...oh, and he doesn't call us mama and papa...we are mom and dad, so we think this is hysterical)

  • "I need to go home and see the kitties" or "I need to go home and feed the kitties" or "Where are the kitties?" or "Where are our home kitties?" (Scott and I like to explain to him how our "house kitties have moved to Indianapolis but he can go visit sometime....hello, they are at HOME" LOL)

  • "Where is Lola Zola?" or "Where is sister?" (yes, Lola our golden retriever)

  • "Do you smell crazy bread?" He answers himself with, "Yes, and I smell crazy sauce, too" (people at Little Caesar's find this very funny...mainly because he answers himself and he is not quiet)

  • "I can't know" is the answer to most things that you are trying to get a real answer out of him. For example, he will reply, "I can't know" after any of these daily questions; "What did you do at school today?" "What was you favorite activity today?" "Do you like baths or showers?" " Why did you throw that down?" "What did you do to get put in time out?" "What did you just say?" "What do you want to eat?" "What did you eat for lunch today?"

  • "I don't want to tell you" (A not-so-cute phrase by Mr. Grant)

  • "Who has a G letter?" (meaning who else has a "G" in their name), then he will proceed to ask about each of "his letters"

  • He likes to criticize cursive writing. He does not feel that cursive is the correct way of writing his letters (because he is only learning print right now)

  • He received a camera for Christmas from his Aunt Debbie and Uncle Jerry. He likes to go around and take pictures of everything (he even walked in on me in the bathroom the other day, which I had to explain to him that cameras were not intended for bathroom private moments). Anyway, he likes to snap a shot and say one of the following: "Good picture, Mommy" "Great job, Daddy" "Oh, that's a good one" "Oh, that's a great one" "That's a really nice shot" "Say cheese" "Ready, one, two three" etc.

  • He "works" towards the reward of having checkmarks on a responsibility chart. So, when he does ANYTHING and I mean ANYTHING, he will instantly ask, "do I get a checkmark?" We will either threaten to take them away or give him one for positive reinforcement. Well, we've been doing this for a couple of months. Now, Grant has caught on so he will say, "Daddy you get a check mark" when Scott takes out the trash to the curb every week or "Mommy you get a check mark" when I clean the dishes. He will also threaten them to us too. I like to see that he understands the consequence of not only his own actions, but ours as well. "Mommy, you don't get a checkmark if you don't throw that away." Scott receives many checkmarks for making great meals. He is always getting them for spaghetti. Also, replacing batteries in any of his toys warrants a checkmark.

  • His teacher wrote a note a few weeks ago about a funny thing Grant said to his classmates. One little boy was bragging about his dad, "My dad got this necklace for me" and another little girl said, "Oh, yeah, my dad made this bracelet for me." Grant piped up, "Yeah, well my dad makes sghetti and mac-n-cheese."

Well, as you well know Grant is full of fun. I hope to expand on this when I can, but for right now I think you get a basic idea of our little funny man! He is so loving and precious. I love everything about him, especially his sense of humor and self!

Birthday and Baptism

Grant went to a friend's birthday and I took some cute pictures of him and Scott. Some were more of a personality reflection of Grant and his "coming of age." HE IS THREE!!!

In the same weekend, we also attended and celebrated the baptism of our new baby cousin, Emily! Here are some pictures of that beautiful event too!
